Nothing straight

Nothing straight

Photo 37 of 356 of the 2015 Collection
Randomly chosen by my mother Claire Parent from my Blue collection.

Out there shooting, we tend to forget our selves, look left, look right, look back, look down, crouch, circle and look up.
In this case everything was skew, nothing was straight, I liked it.

Mini Hogwarts, the library

Photo 31 of 356 of the 2015 Collection
Randomly chosen by Joburg Photowalker organizer extraordinaire Mark Straw from my Blue collection.

I have not posted a monochrome in a while and St John’s College just lends itself to this kind of post-processing.

Prickly in green

Prickly in green

Photo 39 of 356 of the 2015 Collection

Yesterday’s flower looked like it was once prickly, this one was a pure affirmation.
I found it growing near the “Welcome to the Free State” sign by the Vaal Dam, luckily no one asked for my passport and the day when on merely.

The old Joburg Post Office

The old Joburg Post Office

Photo 30 of 356 of the 2015 Collection

The Johannesburg Post office was once a mighty building in the center of town opened on the 26 of January 1897.
Now a relic from time past, pillaged to near extinction, a sore sight in the middle of a city and dead in front of City Hall.
A ruin that could be rejuvenated, no one seems to care.

Sunset at Northcliff Water Tower

Sunset at Northcliff Water Tower

Photo 35 of 356 of the 2015 Collection
Randomly chosen by Pascal’s random number generator from my Blue collection.

A good sunset is something to be admired, that evening we were served with a great sunset and beautiful light.
On the top of the hill lies the “Northcliff Water Tower”, literally a landmark of Johannesburg as it can be seen from kilometers away.
Oddly enough not the easiest place to get to but worth the trip.

High speed train

High speed train

Photo 29 of 356 of the 2015 Collection
My first photograph published and shot in 2015!
I apologize to the people that chose a photo (Roxanne as I remember it) , I am posting from work and do not have access to my main photo collection.
Normal program should return soon.

It’s 5 a.m. I am on top of the Johannesburg double-decker bridge as it’s commonly known here, the sky threatens with all it’s might.
What am I doing? Train spotting with Joburg Photowalker, I kid you not!
In the center of the city lies a train yard, the Johannesburg main station in the horizon.

Joburg Sunset from Northcliff Hill

Joburg Sunset from Northcliff Hill

Photo 31 of 356 of the 2015 Collection
Randomly chosen by Andrew Stevenson from my Blue collection.

I am now hoping that I can return to my normal routine and post a photo a day, I’ll also catchup a few which like this one will be back dated, I am sure you will forgive me.
This was shot on a stormy evening in the good company of Joburg Photowalkers, a very active Johannesburg photographers group.
We went up Northcliff Hill and spend the evening shooting the vistas in the safety of number, though I only got 4 shots I will publish, it was one of the more socially enjoyable evenings I had in a long time. We ended up at a restaurant a bunch of photography enthusiasts not caring for a moment about work and home, just enjoying the moment.
Lately, I have wondered if my career in software development is worth it, because of times like these.

Bathroom Renovation

Bathroom Renovation

Photo 19 of 356 of the 2015 Collection
Randomly chosen by good friend Shantal Hardy from my Blue collection.

Walking around old buildings is always a treat for me, I tend to “see” what the apocalypse could be like.
But I also see the rejuvenation possibilities and that always puts me in a good mood.
This is a bathroom renovation in one of these buildings, no much use today but just imagine…

Suikerbosrand River

Suikerbosrand River

Photo 16 of 356 of the 2015 Collection
Randomly chosen by my friend from far and away (somewhere in the United Kingdoms) Lewis Brown from my Blue collection.

The Suikerbosrand River flows into the Vaal River Barrage, I could find little more on the web except that there seems to be some good fishing there.
