The Nizamiye Turkish Masjid in Midrand may stick out of the landscape from afar but once inside it reveals it’s beauty by day and even more by night.

Radiant Johannesburg

Radiant Johannesburg

Photo 50 of 356 of the 2015 Collection

It has been a while since my last post, for various reasons I have not been posting as much as I would have liked.
This is a bit outside my forte per say, last night I was on the 13th floor of a building in renovation in New Doornfontein with Joburg Photowalkers, it overlooked Johannesburg and I tried something for the sake of it.
So Radiant Johannesburg was born.

Nizamiye Turkish Masjid Dome

Photographing places of worship is always sensitive for 2 reasons, one you do not want to misrepresent such a place and two there is always traffic.
Generally this means there are rules such as no tripod, making it really hard to get “the shot”, we were lucky that we had no such rules imposed on us, though admittedly we entered very late.
This is the dome of the Nizamiye Turkish Masjid in Midrand, the detail is just incredible.

Joburg under stormy skies

Joburg under stormy skies

Photo 45 of 356 of the 2015 Collection

Joburg Photowalker went to the Ansteys Building a few weeks back, the access to the roof was an irresistible temptation.
Though it was on a Sunday I had to go to work as my team was under heavy pressure from a client to deliver, I still made the time.
Why the long story? Because I never made it to the roof, little did I know that the last 2 flights were on the outside of the building and I have a serious issue with heights.
My wife, Geraldine, went up and shot this panoramic view for me.

The Block House

The Anglo-Boer War blockhouse

Photo 38 of 356 of the 2015 Collection
Randomly chosen by Kim Brown from my Blue collection.

This Anglo-Boer War blockhouse is prominently situated on a low rise a few hundred meters to the north of the main road from Alberton to Vereeniging, a few kilometers south of the point where that road is joined by the road from Johannesburg.
