Haunted Bathroom

Haunted Bathroom at the Observatory

Photo 72 of 356 of the 2015 Collection

I am back after a sudden unplanned absence, a work project took all of my spare time and that was that, it is not over but I am starting to post again, probably not daily just yet but it will be more regular.
Today I got a few HDR related questions and a few hatred comments on HDR, I also saw that the HDR war is back on in social media.
When used for the “right” purpose with the “right” outcome in mind, HDR is a great tool to achieve a result that cannot be achieved in any other ways.
The Haunted Bathroom is such a case, this is a 7 photo HDR (maybe an overkill) plus blending and a filter for good measure.
My question to you is: Does it look wrong? If so why?

Plaine des Osmondes

Plaine des Osmondes

Photo 70 of 356 of the 2015 Collection
Yet another panoramic view from Le Piton de la Fournaise.
We were concerned about the accumulation of clouds but these tend to evaporate quickly over the intense heat of the Plaine des Osmondes.
The black solidified lava flows heat up and literally cause an updraft.
Unfortunately the volcano was very quiet whilst we were there, so I could not shoot an active lava flow.

Reunion in the mist

Forest in the mist

Photo 67 of 356 of the 2015 Collection

The day we went to the “Foret Domaniale des Makes” the mist was present, I did not realize until then how much it could change the mood and perseption of a single photo.

Enclos du Piton de la Fournaise

From the trek up the volcano in the horizon sits le Pas de Bellecombe at 2311m in altitude, the plain below “Enclos du Piton de la Fournaise” a hundred meters below. You can also clearly see the white markings of the trail and cooled lava flows on either side.
Not your average hike I can promise you.

La Fenêtre

La Fenêtre

Photo 66 of 356 of the 2015 Collection
Overlooking le Cirque de Cilaos from La Fenêtre at Les Makes at about 1600 meters above sea level is intimidating at best, knowing that there is a cool 1000 meters fall before you makes you feel a little off your game, particularly if all you see is a blanket of grey.
Luckily enough, we had the chance to see what was bellow that blanket, it did not last long.

Mountains, fields and ocean

Photo 65 of 356 of the 2015 Collection
Standing at Le Maïdo is breath taking, taking in the sight before you, incredible.
Le Maïdo is situated on the central western side of the island of reunion, what you see past the mountains is the sugarcane field of the eastern side of the island and the glittering of Indian Ocean bellow the clouds.

Forest Bench

Forest Bench

Photo 63 of 356 of the 2015 Collection
My wife and I were invited by friends to a picnic at Les Makes, it was a very unexpected event.
The people of Reunion Island seem to love picnicking to the point where the forest has these benches scattered about, whether it is to do a barbeque or just chill everything is at your disposal.
Even more surprising was the forest, dense and majestic, Reunion Island though a mere 63 kilometers long by 45 kilometers wide, smaller than the greater Johannesburg, has a vast landscape that ranges from mountain peaks at 3000m, desert plains and beaches, a true wonder of nature begging to be discovered.

Notre-Dame de la Delivrance

Notre-Dame de la Delivrance

Photo 64 of 356 of the 2015 Collection
On an Island such as Reunion where most of the coastal towns start with “Saint” it makes sense that there be a hoard of churches, this is Notre-Dame de la Delivrance in Saint-Denis.
I sneaked this one in wist waiting for a service to finish.
Next time I go, I will shoot more of these places of worship, from all backgrounds from churches to temples, they all have character.
